Volunteer Search Functions

Summary

ClinSpark supports a feature called ‘Volunteer Search Functions’ (VSF) which allows the IQVIA team and customers to collaborate on defining complex search queries. These arbitrary search ‘functions’ may be very complex in nature and look across several types of data depending on the business requirement. Once established, they allow users to benefit from the pre-defined logic when performing advanced searches across the volunteer database.

Volunteer search function configurations are only accessible by Foundry Health superadmin users, via the Administration > System Settings component.

Search functions that are defined are made visible to users within the advanced search feature in Volunteers > Manage. Users will be able to select the function name, along with the defined operators and values for that function.

One example supporting this functionality would be sites that track varying levels of tobacco use with their volunteers, and further, may have interest in (or are conducting) tobacco-related clinical trials. Using a search function, recruitment teams can leverage a specific search query to return volunteers that meet certain requirements for “Active Smokers”.

Custom development of search functions

As volunteer & study data vary across customers, so do recruitment workflows. Volunteer search functions therefore in many cases are unique to the customer.

Upon request via the Service Desk, the IQVIA support team can help with creating a specification and definition for a custom search function. To ensure that we receive a complete understanding of the requirements, customers should share the following:

  • A clear description of the business need and use case(s) for which the VSF will serve

  • Examples of data that would be taken into account when building out the function/query logic, and used in testing

  • Input parameters that would be used with the query (operators and values)

Additional details may be requested by IQVIA while collaborating on the function via service desk.
