The screening area has various procedures to accommodate for, setting up designated stations or work areas for basic study events to occur will assist with a fluid workflow. Each area where study events are completed should be clearly identified to ensure that the proper equipment is available.

Work Areas & Equipment

The following recommendations for setup, equipment and placement is based on screening approximately 40-50 subjects/day. Additionally, this area can be repurposed for check-in and follow-up procedures as desired.

Informed Consent and Medical History

Depending on space; individual rooms or partitioned off spaces (4-5) can be used for both procedures. If group Informed Consents are being performed then Medical History could be completed in the same area as other procedures, or, have another designated area to be completed.

Equipment:

  • 1 Computer for each Informed Consent and/or Medical History space

  • 1 Wristband Printer for users to access or; alternately 1 wristband printer for each Informed Consent/Medical History space where subject wristbands will be printed

  • 1 Barcode Scanner at each computer being used for these procedures

  • 1 Regular printer for users to access for printing Informed Consents (If needed)

Height / Weight / BMI & Urinalysis

One area with access to at least one restroom for these two procedures to be completed.

Equipment:

  • 1-2 Computers

  • 1-2 Label Printers

  • 1-2 Barcode Scanners

  • 1-2 Scales

Vitals & ECG

Individual rooms or partitioned off spaces (4-5) should be used for these two procedures. Subjects can sit, stand, lay, ect. for vital signs procedures and then proceed with their ECG procedures if required for the study or visit.

Equipment:

  • 1 Computer for each Vitals & ECG space

  • 1 Vitals Device in each designated space

  • 1 ECG Device in each designated space

  • 1 Barcode scanner for each Vitals & ECG space

Physical Exam

Either one room designated for physicals, or, the person completing the physicals could use the Vitals & ECG spaces to then complete the physical as well.

Equipment:

  • 1 Computer designated for a physical room or use other workstations to perform physicals. Optionally the person(s) doing physicals may have their own laptop.

  • 1 Barcode Scanner (If barcode requirements are in place on physical exam forms)

Blood Draw

2-3 blood draw chairs/stations for subjects to complete their safety labs. Alternately the Blood draws can occur in the Vitals & ECG areas to maximize on space and computers if necessary.

Equipment:

  • 1 Computer for each draw station

  • 1 Label Printer for each draw station

  • 1 Barcode Scanner for each draw station
