When multiple specimen containers are configured for a lab panel or sample pathway, users will be prompted to verify a barcode for each container associated with the given panel or pathway. This is useful for sample collections that have multiple tubes for one collection time point.

Manage Specimen Containers

Specimen containers for Lab Panels and Sample Pathways are managed within Administration > General Settings > Specimen Containers.

Specimen Container Code

In ClinSpark version 1.5+ users can optionally configure a specimen container code. Container codes are used by some laboratories to define the intended type of specimen for a given specimen container.

If this specimen code is defined, it will be added to the end of each item barcode produced where a container requirement is present.

These codes can also be defined/used in conjunction with any global container prefix configurations. This configuration is for the collection label barcodes and does not apply to the transfer labels.

Add Specimen Container

When adding a new specimen container, the description will be presented to users during data collection. The specimen code and help text are optional fields. The description can also be added to label design.

Edit Specimen Container

The code (if applicable), description and the help text of a specimen container can be updated at any time with a reason for change. Any changes can be tracked through the audits.

Delete a Specimen Container

Specimen containers that have been configured with a sample path or a lab panel cannot be deleted. Users can edit the container and archive the container from use if needed.

Lab Panel Configuration

Although lab panels must contain tests from the same category, a panel can be created with tests that have different specimen containers. A specimen container does not need to be added to the panel when this design is used.

Data Collection

Users will need to barcode verify each container associated with the lab panel during data collection.

Lab Order

Once data collection is complete, samples will be available to create a lab order within the Lab > Orders module. Unique barcodes and containers can be included for each test on the lab order.

Sample Pathway Configuration

When a sample pathway is configured to include more than one container, each container will follow the sample pathway steps configured.

Data Collection

Users will need to barcode verify each container associated with the sample pathway during data collection.
