Code lists are referenced by item data fields to provide selectable responses to a question during data collection and are leveraged in scenarios where responses are predictable and/or data collectors aren’t allowed to type free text. When a data field references a code list, the user is restricted to selecting only those responses contained in the code list. Typical examples include: ‘Yes/No’, ‘Male/Female’, ‘CS/NCS’, ect. Each code list item is comprised of two parts, facilitating the ability to export a different value than what is displayed to users during data collection:

  • Decoded Value: Value displayed to users during data collection and within the application.

  • Coded Value: Reported value as part of final deliverables.
