Pooling Samples

Summary

This workflow facilitates cases in which a given blood draw will need to be collected into multiple collection containers and later pooled into a single container.

Prerequisites

Sample tasks must be unique within a given sample path; use Administration > General Settings > Samples > Sample Tasks and add new sample tasks if needed. To indicate a step should be pooled, the transfer type ‘Pool’ should be configured for the sample task.

The sample path must be configured with multiple path-level specimen containers. Containers are configured in Administration > General Settings > Specimen Containers.

Set-Up

A given path can only include a single pooling step. Aliquots cannot be subsequently pooled. Once pooled, subsequent aliquoting of the pooled tube can still occur. The first sample task cannot be a pooling step in a pathway at this time. If pooling is necessary to be the first step it is suggested to include a sample 'check-in' step as the first step.

Processing Workflow

The processing steps in the video below will follow the sample path steps that were previously configured in this article.
