Terminology

Void Containers

  • A 'container' that is used temporarily to collect a void that is added to a interval collection (storage) container.

  • These void containers are barcoded to ensure that the right void goes with the right interval collection container for the right subject.

  • Sometimes the same void container is used in an interval, or, new void containers are used for each void.

Interval Collection (Storage) Containers

  • These are the interval container 'jugs' that are used to store the void in (for the fridge, etc).

  • The number of needed collection containers for an interval is unknown. If a subject is voiding a lot, they may need to add several collection containers to an interval.

Info

Note

  1. Focuses on a simple urine collection interval process (e.g. does not include a 'clean catch')

  2. It's possible for there to be 0 (zero), 1 or several urine voids in an interval. Shorter intervals are unlikely to have many voids and longer intervals are unlikely to have 0 or few voids if kidney function remains unaffected and compliance is good

  3. Safety precautions and associated best practices are out of the scope of this workflow

  4. Attempts to design a process that does not require a urine monitoring log or a checker

Start Interval

Within Data Collection:

  1. Scan Start Event barcode label on pooling container to open event (or open event manually > Interval PK Start form)

  1. Scan subject wristband to verify correct subject

  1. Scan Container Start Barcode again

    • Container is confirmed to belong to the subject for that collection interval

    • Document the start date/time of interval

Collect Urine Void in Interval

Info

Note

A urinal has been used in the following examples, but may just as easily and interchangeably show a hat.

Within Data Collection:

  1. Scan subject wristband

Image RemovedImage Added

  1. Press “Add New” within form to add a new void

  2. Scan urinal (void container) as applicable

    • Void container is confirmed to belong to the subject for that interval collection

  3. Subject voids and time of collection is documented

Image RemovedImage Added

  1. Scan barcode on interval collection container

  2. Scan urinal or hat as applicable

Info

Weight

Sometimes weight is required for each void but not always

Pooling Void Container into Interval Collection Container

  1. Pooling (Interval Collection) Container is confirmed to match the urinal (void container) for that interval collection for that subject.

1.

2.

  1. Poor freshly voided urine into the pooling container

  1. Rinse and retain the urinal for the next void OR

A new void container is provided each time a subject voids

Repeat as necessary until the end of the interval.
